Definition of Meta search engine
A meta-search engine is a search engine that search's user's query to several others search engines combines the result of all search engines into one result and display them after removing duplicates.
  The Idea is, Web is too large for any search engine to index it all and user can get good result by combining the result from several search engines, this can save users time from having to use multiple search engines individually.Difficult to find first and oldest meta-search engine but the story started from 1994.

Dogpile
Searches Google, Yahoo, LookSmart, Ask.com, MSN search, and more. Popular metasearch site owned by InfoSpace that sends a search to a customizable list of search engines, directories and specialty search sites, then displays results from each search engine individually.
